Lahore; Last week July 2022: Mr. Parvez Elahi (of PML-Q, supported by the PTI) took over as chief minister of the Punjab on July 26, 2022 after the apex court verdict.
Within three days, his government issued a ‘MOST URGENT’ ‘REMINDER’ with a ‘TIME LIMIT’ to all the Divisional Directors of Local Government in the Punjab “to ensure implementation of the amendment regarding oath of Khatme Nabuwwat in the true letter and spirit” in Nikah formalities.
The daily Dawn of July 31, 2022 reported this news and commented, “The move to incorporate the oath of Khatme Nabuwwat in the Nikah Nama was initiated by Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as speaker of Punjab Assembly and the amendment was made through legislation.”
The Dawn further reported on the official handout, “It says the Nikah registrars have been directed also to use the updated Form II to solemnize the Nikah, failing which strict disciplinary action shall be taken against the UC secretary concerned…. Both the bride and the bridegroom will be required to sign the oath of Khatme Nabuwwat at the time of solemnizing Nikah, it says.” This MOST URGENT REMINDER requires “A certificate regarding 100% implementation of said amendment must be furnished regarding your respective divisions within one day till 30.7.2022 on the Email: ID [email protected] without fail.”
