Attack comes despite pre-holiday threat warning from law enforcement, as town registers its second armed assault on Ahmadis in eight months
RABWAH (CHENAB NAGAR), Pakistan, 5 June — A gunman shot and wounded three members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community outside a mosque in Rabwah, Punjab, on Friday evening, in the second such attack in the town within eight months.
The assailant, riding a motorcycle with his face covered, opened fire on a vehicle carrying Ahmadiyya security volunteers stationed outside Baitul Aqsa Mosque at around 9 pm local time before fleeing the scene. No arrests has so far been had been made as of Friday evening.
Two of the three men wounded in the attack were in critical condition. Waqas Ahmad, 23, was struck by four bullets, while Abdul Jabbar, 39, sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Bilal Ahmad, 30, was shot in the chest — the bullet passed through his body causing internal bleeding — but was not in immediate danger.
The attack came despite threat warnings issued by law enforcement authorities ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha holiday, raising questions about the adequacy of security measures in a town that serves as the headquarters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Pakistan.
In October 2025, six Ahmadis were wounded when gunmen opened fire outside Baitul Mahdi Mosque, also in Rabwah.
Police have launched an investigation. No group has claimed responsibility for Friday’s attack.
