Amnesty International has urged the Punjab government to take immediate steps to protect the rights of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community ahead of Eid ul-Adha, warning of a continued rise in discrimination, harassment, and violence against Ahmadis in Pakistan.

In an open letter addressed to Punjab Chief Minister, the human rights organisation expressed concern over what it described as a recurring pattern of restrictions on Ahmadi religious practices during major religious occasions.

The letter highlighted incidents reported during Eid-ul-Fitr 2026, where Ahmadi congregations were allegedly prevented from worshipping in several districts of Punjab, including Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Sargodha. Amnesty International stated that police and local authorities interfered with worship activities, removed worshippers from prayer sites, and sealed places of worship.

Amnesty also raised concerns over targeted killings, attacks on Ahmadi graves, harassment through blasphemy accusations, and increasing social and administrative discrimination against the community. The organisation noted that Ahmadis in Punjab have reportedly faced difficulties in marriage registration and other civil matters since 2024.

Calling these actions violations of fundamental human rights, Amnesty urged the Punjab government to ensure that Ahmadis are able to observe Eid-ul-Adha freely and safely without fear, intimidation, or discrimination. The organisation further called for investigations into past incidents and accountability for those responsible for violence and abuses against the community.
